Have to drink something when bottling the home brew.

Dark Force

So we bottled our batch of English Brown Ale last night and are really looking forward to it. Didn’t notice any obvious contamination like we did with the Porter and the flavor while flat and at room temperature was quite appealing. We plan our first tasting in two weeks but will probably save most of the two cases for about a month to allow for proper conditioning.

During our bottling we tried an IPA from Lagunitas called Kill Ugly Radio. I found it to have an initial bite that is followed by a general lack of finish. It was almost surprising as the floral tones on the end of the tounge were quite appealing but the flavor dissipates quickly. Kind of odd really. As compared to other IPAs of late, I enjoyed it but wouldn’t rank it among my favorites in the category.

The other beverage of the night was a Wheat Stout called Dark Force. Yes, I bought this $9 bottle because of the label and name. I generally don’t enjoy wheat beers as they lack the body found in barley malt but this Stout may make me try a few more. I found it to be very enjoyable with complex yet subtle flavor. Definitely can taste the roasted malts that make a Stout especially yummy.
