Surprised looking over my glasses frames to find a man in his mid 60s with a thinning comb-over and a faux tan members-only jacket.
“See how the text distorts at the edges? This hotel is so cheap.”
I’m enjoying the quiet…dull roar from the nearby bar and faint piano music from the overhead sound system…he muted the tv, he later tells me…how do I end this quickly?
“Yeah, I noticed that.”
“Cheap. They are waiting until February to replace it and go to HD.”
Moments pass. Feels like several minutes. And then he starts to walk away. He’s leaving. No, he approaches the tv to examine it more closely.
“See…it’s distorted at the edges. Cheap hotel.”
“Sure is.”
He examines the TV closely as if trying to determine exactly where the text scroll originates.
Damn, he’s coming back over. Sits on the arm of the couch next to me. Only for a moment, and then slides down onto the cushion.
“Cheap hotel.”
Moments pass. I consider counting them.
Standing again. He seems defeated.
“I muted it earlier. On the bottom right of the TV. You can turn it up if you want.”
“Nothing I want to hear anyway.”
“Yep. Cheap hotel.”
He turns, pulls keys from his jacket pocket and walks away.

With a name like that, how couldn’t I try it.

It’s a nice basic ale, with a slight hoppiness. Very unassuming and easily consumed (i.e. suddenly you are wondering where the other five bottles went.)

Heroes Sucks http://luckyviking.com/2008/11/07/heroes-sucks/ http://luckyviking.com/2008/11/07/heroes-sucks/#comments Sat, 08 Nov 2008 03:23:10 +0000 Steve http://luckyviking.com/?p=103 There, I said it.

This TV show had so much promise but has completely missed it’s potential and has become nearly unwatchable. I hang on each week only to be disgusted by the hour I just wasted based on the small promise that maybe, just maybe the writer’s will right the ship and give us a comic book style story worth our viewing. I try to temper my expectations but time and again the writers lower themselves below the most shallow bars.

Of course, I haven’t deleted it from the DVR schedule yet so I’ll be suffering through it again next week.

I’m founding a new organization…

Inspired Skeptics United for Freedom Against Dogma

I’d post our bylaws and mission but that would be to restrictive.

Shirts to be printed soon.

Seriously…this is great http://luckyviking.com/2008/11/07/seriouslythis-is-great/ http://luckyviking.com/2008/11/07/seriouslythis-is-great/#comments Sat, 08 Nov 2008 03:05:15 +0000 Steve http://luckyviking.com/?p=99 Obama’s campaign and eventual victory changed things even for the Republican Party.

I totally disagree with the notion that the Obama victory was a result of the Republican campaign being to moderate. If anything, the Republican party pushed small “c” conservatives and moderates away and were far too “C” conservative in this election and more importantly for the past eight years.

That is one of many factors as to why they lost. Being too moderate? Hardly. They weren’t moderate at all.

Anyway, I’m pleased that some within the RNC see the writing on the wall and I plan on participating in helping them rebuild. My feeling is…the more we participate in both parties…the better chance we’ll have in establish a strong moderate establishment.

Fantastic!

A perspective from another family member… http://luckyviking.com/2008/11/06/a-perspective-from-another-family-member/ http://luckyviking.com/2008/11/06/a-perspective-from-another-family-member/#comments Fri, 07 Nov 2008 00:18:25 +0000 Steve http://luckyviking.com/?p=93 This from my Uncle Mark…again…don’t agree with everything written but its about sharing perspectives in an honest and respectable way…right?

—–

Its tough being on the democratic side. It is a party open to all ideas, liberal and conservative. Its inclusive rather than exclusive. It consists of Christians, Muslims, Jews, Black, Hispanics, athiests and anyone else who believe that we are all equal with the right to do or be what ever their God given talents bring them. Its a party based on the ideas of the individuals and not a party line or dogma. Right to choose, pro life, both are welcome as they all share common beliefs and work to build where they can agree. It is no crime being a democrate or a republican, but I feel being a democrat gives me the right to have my own thoughts and not surrender to those who want to dictate a doctrine.

I can go on, its right out of the speeches from Barack Obama. He raised himself from nothing to the highest office of the land. He is an American before anything and the labels that have been placed on him are only to divide and not unite us. He will now face the task of fixing the almost unrepairable reputation that Bush has gotten this country. Our economy is in shambles, we have lost 4000 American Soldiers lives not to mention hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis who had nothing to do with 9/11 that lie dead in the wake of a failed policy. The only ones who have benefited are the Industrial Military complex and those who feed it. President Eisenhour warned agains this and Bush sold himself out for the riches and wealth he will take with him in January. Good riddens to him and his cronies, they have left this nation a scorched earth and nothing to show for it. I have never been so dissappointed and bitter with a American Administration as this one. God Bless Barak Obama and the USA. We need all the help we can get! By the way, OSAMA Bin Laden remains a free man.

We love you all!

It takes courage to stand up for your beliefs and if my site can be a place where she is comfortable doing that than who am I to not provide her that opportunity.

I love you, Mom.

And we need to talk about some of these values, I mean, really. ;-)

—-From my mom—-
We lost by being too moderate.
As for me I will stand for my Conservative values:
1.Secret ballots for union members
2.No fairness doctrine for talk radio
3.No late or really late term abortions(PROLIFE)
4.No government control of all my health care
5.No increase in estate taxes
6.No increase in capital gains taxes
7.No increase in income taxes
8.No open borders for illegals
9.No drivers license for illegals
10.Do not release all Gitmo prisoners
11. Do not weaken our military and National defense
12.No non-Constitutionalist to the Supreme Court
13. No increase in affirmative action quotas
14. Sharing the wealth by providing jobs
15. Drill for oil and keep clean coal and other energy independence goals
16. Limited Federal government in our daily lives. More state and local decisions.
17. Capitalism not Socialism.
We do not need to compromise our values and I will not.!
